The homeowners of this seaside home in New Hampshire wanted a renovation in order achieve a gorgeous vacation getaway they can enjoy with extended family and friends. Their number one goal was to achieve larger, more open spaces that would lend themselves to gathering and spending quality time together as a family. Instead of a formal dining room, they wanted plenty of space for casual dining in the form of an expansive kitchen island and a full home bar adjacent to the kitchen.

We were careful to restore and enhance the custom home bar in a way that would highlight the home’s architecture while giving it a gorgeous new look. Inspired by the natural surroundings, a nautical theme is thoughtfully integrated throughout the home’s decor. The teak ceiling in the living room, for example, is reminiscent of the hull of a ship.

We incorporated the nautical theme as well as materials that can be found elsewhere in the home to renovate the home bar and achieve a cohesive design. Sailboats are used tastefully throughout the home as a decorative element which is why we made sure to enhance the stained glass porthole depicting a beautiful sailboat scene. The marble used for the subway tile backsplash of the home bar is the same marble used in the stunning marble compass rose inlayed in the floor of the art studio.

The same gold granite used for the kitchen countertops is used for the bar countertop to bring out the bright tones of the wood paneled ceiling and warm the space while creating a nice contrast with the white trim and pale blue walls.

Behind the bar, white cabinetry doors and drawers feature paneled patterns that echo classic nautical stripes. The same nautical upholstered barstools used for the kitchen island naturally became the perfect finishing touch for this custom home bar.
