The clients commissioned the design of the main home first, to become their primary residence on the beach. Relocating with their children from a more inland traditional home with dark wood accents, their new home would embrace the relocation of the family to the seaside. This was achieved with whitewashed wood and lighter color palettes from their previous home. Some wrought iron work in the balustrades and entry door play homage to their more traditional dark wood styles of their previous home, while the open concept living to entertain their large family, and the flowing spaces throughout help keep things airy and light still.

The mansard roof created an aesthetically pleasing mass from the exterior, visually bringing the scale down, while maintaining the required space for the family’s style of living with third floor bedrooms and a truss vaulted cathedral in the great room. A large stair balcony invites light and a visual greets guests entering from the front door to the second floor living space, which was placed on the upper level to take advantage of the views.

The construction of the main home was completed in 2017, after which and more recently the adjacent parcel became available, which the client purchased to combine lots and allow the construction of conservatory addition and new pool and outdoor entertainment areas. The conservatory was designed as a separate conditioned interior/outdoor space with large doors that could make the space either an extension of the interior or exterior. Overlooking the ocean, great thought was kept into preserving sight lines from the conservatory down to various spaces on the patio, with an infinity edge pool blurring the edge of the ocean and the water. A separate outdoor kitchen and cabana building help support the outdoor entertainment the client often hosts for large groups.
