Our vision for the space was to create an in-house library to house materials, samples, and have informal working meetings with clients. The existing space was used as a private office, and needed some new flooring, and lighting. The color palette stemmed from the existing office, and was brightened with an organic textured carpet, with a super white trim. Two lengths of the space were converted to 9’ high built-in shelving for product binders, and fabric books. The back counter is a great place to layout ongoing project materials with hidden undercabinet lighting, and project tray storage below. The center of the space we designed a custom standing height desk with wheels that can be moved as needed, with a natural quartzite stone top. The adjacent wall has several art rails that can display full size tiles, wood flooring samples and project materials boards. The highlight of the space was the custom curved rail library ladder which makes a huge functional impact for reaching the shelves above. In order to save costs on custom cabinetry we integrated Elfa wire drawers for loose samples, and IKEA drawers for heavier smaller samples like tile and countertop. The best part of the space that is hidden in plain sight is the use of wirelessly integrated LED lights. With this system we are able to effortlessly change the Kelvin color temperature of the lights from keypad to display from 2700k warm incandescent type lighting, all the way to 5000k bright sunlight. This creates the perfect environment to preview how materials will really look in their final location.
