A few months ago, we shared the beginnings of a beach house project here on our blog. Now at three months in, we’re happy to say that construction is moving right along! Here are some highlights of the project so far…

The home is located on a beach with fine sand and no public parking, making it almost a private beach! A deck with dining room access and a 4 seasons porch are also in the works, so the family can enjoy the outdoors and spectacular ocean views year-round.

The lot for this home is twice the width of the neighboring lots, which means plenty of possibilities for the interior layout. We created a reverse floor plan with main spaces one story above grade to keep the view unobstructed. We then designed an open floor plan between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms to allow for continuous views of the water.

The 3 stories above grade presented a complex challenge in terms of massing. To break up the mass, we used different exterior finishes and horizontal trim band at all levels. The ground floor walls will be covered with lattice work, the second floor walls have cedar shingles finishes with a flair at the bottom and an important frieze band going around the entire house. The top floor is hidden under the gable roof covered with wood shingles. The deep roof eaves are dynamic with the presence of brackets. The shed and hip dormers are used to animated the roof plane.

Are you as excited as we are to see how this home turns out? We hope so! Stay tuned for more updates as construction moves forward. And if this inspires you to build or renovate your own waterfront getaway, reach out to us at 603-436-4274 or [email protected] to get started.
