September is here and many of us are feeling that back to school excitement! The 2015 school year is one we’ve been anticipating for quite some time now, due to a large new undertaking in Durham, NH; home to the University of New Hampshire.   Now, we’re pleased to share the new Madbury Commons student housing and retail complex with you, which opened just in time for the Fall 2015 Semester. Take a look…

Madbury Commons – View From Above

Madbury Commons was a fourteen-month project in collaboration with PROCON Construction, Golden Goose Capital, and Kennebunk Savings. The TMS Architects team produced the comprehensive design for this 208,000 sq ft, multi-purpose building in the heart of UNH’s campus. The building includes 126 fully furnished student apartments, 46,000 sq ft of commercial retail space, and 38,000 sq ft dedicated to UNH’s InterOperability Lab: a hands-on learning experience for future engineers that’s slated to open in December of this year.

Madbury Commons — After

It took hard work to ensure Madbury Commons would be open in time for the Fall 2015 semester. This year’s harsh winter posed a significant challenge to the team’s construction schedule, and the team worked aggressively to keep everything moving on schedule. The PROCON team put forth remarkable effort and countless hours into these past four months so UNH students would be able to move in on time.

Despite the challenges we faced, Madbury Commons is officially open and we are so proud of the team that worked to make it all happen! It truly brings us joy to be able to accommodate the housing needs of so many UNH students, and we’re excited to see future developments in their retail and laboratory spaces. If you’re in the neighborhood, we encourage you to take a look in person!

Do you have a commercial architecture project planned? TMS Architects has the ability and experience to take on even the most challenging products, and we’d be happy to work with you. Contact us to get started!
